I love science, but, holy cow… I hate scientism! (exergue)

Step Three

“Made a decision to turn our will and our lives
over to the care of God as we understood Him.” (p. 34, BB)

Dodes: “For an organization that has expressly denied religious standing and publicly claims a secular—even scientific—approach, it is curious that AA retains these explicit references to a spiritual power whose care might help light the way toward recovery. Even for addicts who opt to interpret this step secularly, the problem persists: why can’t this ultimate power lie within the addict?” (Step 3)

I fucking love science but I fucking hate scientismAnswering Dodes’ question, “why can’t this ultimate power lie within the addict?” (Please understand that the tone I use is mainly directed to him, there). Well, because this ultimate power cannot be human! Do you believe you are nothing else than your human skin? This would be the same as to believe that you are nothing more than a “rational animal”, take of the qualia and you are just a beast or a piece of nearly dead meat… do you truly “believe” that?

Zim-wiki is absolutely fantastic!

Zim-wiki literally saved my life! “Zim”, this desktop, tiny and free application, allows one to create structured notepads for quick, or complex, note taking… it is not a word editor (even though it has a word-count and spell-check) but an XML structured-base organising tool for notes taking. It gives a comprehensive environment for creating content and linking desired portions of the created document to other portions relating together by “concepts”, which you can define on the go as your ideas flow. The hidden power of Ubuntu!

Ubuntu 15.10 installed! (2016-01-03)One year of experience with Ubuntu now… and I’m more than conquered! (upgrading to version 15.10 now). Some people may say that the mess in your room represents the mess in your head… well, I’m kind of a geek, so in fact, I rather say that my head was a mess because my old Windows Operating System was a mess. And it needs to be acknowledged that since I have adopted Linux, well, all became much more clearer for me. Since then (one might say it is a miracle) my unit where I live is always clean and tidy! So, for what concerns me, I’d say that this is where lies the real power of Ubuntu…

Sane reaction to reminiscent memories…

Recently I went to visit the national Art Gallery of New South Wales and I never thought I would feel that way. First I wandered from a theme to another theme, unconsciously bypassing the conventional circuit offered to the average tourist. I didn’t think, nor expect nothing in particular but simply to enjoy myself for an hour or two. Naturally I very much appreciated some of the paintings exposed on the walls. A little after I would realise and be surprised that the paintings were disposed in specific rooms relating to their respective period of creation. Continue reading
